The wave of migrations that hit the whole world did not bypass Bosnia and Herzegovina either. Over the years, the care system for the people on the move included the establishment of reception centers, care, assistance, as well as the process of monitoring of all steps for those who found themselves in the country on that way. Children are a special category in this process. Children of all ages often appear unaccompanied, vulnerable and are only in transit through Bosnia and Herzegovina. These children must be adequately cared for.

This is why the Jesuit Refugee Service opened a reception centre for minors, asylum seekers and vulnerable unaccompanied and separated children in Sarajevo, with support of the Bosnian Security Ministry, Caritas Switzerland, Swiss Solidarity and Caritas BiH within the project ‘Support to vulnerable group of children and refugees on route through Bosnia and Herzegovina’ and the BRAT project – ‘Balkan route: Acceptance in transit’.

The center is focused on providing comprehensive support to children by offering a wide range of services.

Children must be protected and while there are those who work on their care, the children are staying in the Centre, protected from everything that poses a challenge and danger.

The children are provided with everything at the Centre, including hot meals, a roof over their heads, medical care, clean clothes and shoes. Most importantly, they have people who take care of them 24 hours a day, so that none of them feel lonely even though they are miles away from their families.
