Charlie Kaufman, American screenwriter, director, producer, and Oscar winner was awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo for his exceptional contribution to the art of film in a special ceremony on Monday evening at the Open Air Cinema, one of the Sarajevo Film Festival's venues. In an exclusive interview with N1, Kaufman talks about his experience of visiting Sarajevo for the second time, his impression of the Sarajevo Film Festival and about the art of film in general. “I love it here,” Kaufman says in the beginning of the talk.

It was an honour to be offered the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo, said the Oscar winner.

“The history of this festival is really moving to me and I think it's distinct from any other festival in that regard,” said Kaufman.

He finds both the city and people of Sarajevo “authentic and warm,” unlike Hollywood.

“Being honest is everything in art. If you're not honest, you're putting something into the world that's very dangerous,” he said.
