Chief of FBiH special police detained over alleged links to drug cartel

Mustafa Selmanovic, head of the Special Police Unit of Bosnia’s Federation entity Police Administration (FUP), and businessman Gordan Memija were detained on Monday in the operation carried out by the Sarajevo Canton’s Interior Ministry on the order of the BiH Prosecutor's Office.

According to unofficial information, they are linked to the drug cartel of Edin Gacanin Tito.

Bosnia’s State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) stated that the two were apprehended within the “BLACK TIE 2” operation in the areas of Sarajevo, Zenica and Mostar, as part of which searches were carried out at several locations. The target of the operation were several suspected natural and legal persons, and among those apprehended were high-ranking officials of police and law enforcement agencies. #related-news_0

The aforementioned activities were carried out by the order of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, over suspicion that the crimes of “Organized crime” have been committed in connection with the crimes of “Money laundering”, “Illegal traffic in narcotic drugs”, and ” Receiving a gift and other forms of benefit” and “Abuse of official position or authority” prescribed by the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The operation is the result of the joint work of SIPA, Sarajevo Canton’s Interior Ministry and the Intelligence and Security Agency of BiH, and supported by the Zenica-Doboj and Herzegovina Neretva Canton’s interior ministries.

International support was provided by the FBI, DEA and Europol, SIPA announced.
