High Representative Christian Schmidt has expressed concern over what he described as "recent and obvious attempts to politicize a court case in order to undermine the constitutional order of the State of Bosnia and Herzegovina."

In his statement, Schmidt criticized the misuse of Republika Srpska institutions to serve the interests of a single individual, calling it “a dangerous step backwards.” He emphasized the importance of unity among citizens across Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether in the Federation, Republika Srpska, or the Brčko District, to uphold the Constitution and support the country’s stability and progress toward Euro-Atlantic integration.

Schmidt reaffirmed his commitment to monitoring the situation and taking measures as needed to ensure the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement. “No individual stands above the law,” he stated, underscoring the importance of fair trials and compliance with court decisions as fundamental principles of the rule of law.

The High Representative also called on both local leaders and the international community, including EUFOR, to act in ways that maintain the country’s constitutional integrity and stability.
