A group of citizens has announced a protest for Monday outside the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Sarajevo, demanding the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is accused of war crimes, during his visit to Poland on January 27.
“We demand that the Government of the Republic of Poland withdraw the resolution adopted on January 9, 2025, which allows high-ranking Israeli officials to participate in commemorative events marking Holocaust Remembrance Day and the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp on January 27. The resolution also welcomes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes in Gaza. Poland, as an ICC member, is legally obligated to comply with all arrest warrants issued by the ICC.
Such a resolution highlights double standards and selective application of international criminal law, which is unacceptable. Passing such a resolution in the current historical context of rampant militarism, imperialism, and capitalism normalizes genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, pushing humanity toward total ruin. While imperfect, the international criminal system remains the only mechanism for accountability for war crimes worldwide, and it is our obligation to strengthen it, not undermine it. At this critical moment for the ICC and international law, it is paramount for countries to stand with victims, not with accused war criminals. Join us to send a clear message: No amnesty for war crimes or war criminals. International criminal law is universal and must not be applied selectively.
All individuals accused of war crimes and wanted by the ICC must be arrested and handed over to the court. No war criminal, at any time, in any place, or for any reason, should have immunity from criminal accountability!” the group stated.
