Citizens gathered in front of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office in Sarajevo on Thursday to protest over the arrest of the director of Bosnia’s Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA), Osman Mehmedagic, who prosecutors suspect of abuse of office, document fraud and money laundering.
According to the Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry, Mehmedagic was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation regarding the validity of his university diploma, while the money laundering suspicions are related to the purchase of a house in Sarajevo.
The Thursday gathering is heavily secured by police officers who are not letting the protesters approach the entrance of the Prosecutor’s Office.
Among the protesters is also Fikret Prevljak, one of the top officials of the strongest ethnic Bosniak political party in the country, the Party for Democratic Action (SDA).
The Bosniak member of the country’ tripartite Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic, from the same political party, urged the Prosecutor’s Office to refrain from serving “those who have the goal of destroying the Intelligence-Security Agency.”
