Karic announced that the draft decision will be sent for a public discussion.

“By doing so, the City of Sarajevo will take over the activities on erecting the monument including the financial instalments,” she said.

During the siege of Sarajevo, civilians, mostly Serbs, were brought to the Kazani site on the Trebevic Mountain, and then thrown into the pit. The number of people killed there has not been officially determined yet. After the war, the remains of 23 victims were exhumed on several occasions from the pit, 15 of which were identified.

According to the Missing Persons Institute (MPI), five victims were female and ten male, aged 27 to 66. Ten victims were Serbs, two Ukrainians, two Croats, and one Bosniak.
