City of Sarajevo condemns vandalism at Eternal Flame Memorial

Scattered flowerpots filled with soil, uprooted trees and ornamental shrubs, and damage to the monument's surroundings were found at the site. The monument had recently undergone a complete restoration.

"The City of Sarajevo will urgently begin repairing the damage so that this important monument, a symbol of antifascism and lasting remembrance, can be restored to its original condition as soon as possible. The incident has been reported to the police, which is expected to take the necessary measures to establish all the circumstances and identify those responsible," the City of Sarajevo said in a statement.

The City of Sarajevo strongly condemned this morning's act of vandalism and the destruction of public space and shared cultural and historical heritage.

"We call on citizens to treat public areas and monuments that belong to all of us responsibly and to work together to preserve the symbols and values that form part of our city's identity. Preserving public spaces and monuments is a shared responsibility," the City of Sarajevo said.
