A meeting of the state coalition was held in Mostar on Tuesday after which the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) leader Dragan Covic pointed out that they tried to agree on several laws, but also that they had some technical issues. They did not agree on the Election Law, the Law on the Court of BiH and the Law on Conflict of Interest, but Covic added that he expects this to happen this week.
“We didn't agree on the conclusion on the Electoral Law, the Law on the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Law on Conflict of Interest, but we reached a certain level and there is a conclusion that the commissions should continue their work and if someone agrees, then those laws will go into the procedure. I’m sorry that we were unable to make a breakthrough this time, which was expected of us. In the next few days, we can expect to be able to agree on something,” he pointed out.
Covic recalled that they expected that in 12 months they would get the opening of negotiation processes, but also noted that these three laws are the minimum that they must complete.
“We will continue to maintain a positive atmosphere, the deadline is this week,” Covic said.
The leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Nermin Niksic, said that “none of the three (Niksoc, Covic, and Milorad Dodik, the leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats – SNSD) were too happy because they are aware that they had some agreements until now, and that today they remain in the same positions”.
“We have remained open that we will try to do whatever we can on any of the laws. The Law on Prevention of Conflict of Interest, it seems to me that we are the closest to an agreement there. In any case, we remain committed to work and find compromises. I am also motivated by the fact that even when we disagree, we talk in an atmosphere that does not mean divisions, conflicts and arguments,” said Niksic.
