Commemoration event for victims of Ustasha crimes begins

Some 30,000 people gathered at an event commemorating the Day of Remembrance of the victims of Ustasha crimes in the Jasenovac concentration camp which is taking place in Donja Gradina.

Among those present are numerous top officials of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity and Serbia.

The event began with a Holy liturgy at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Kozarska Dubica. Wreaths were laid in the “Donja Gradin Memorial Area”, and a memorial service is to take place for the victims of Jasenovac.

The commemoration is attended by the BiH Presidency Chair, Zeljka Cvijanovic, RS President, Milorad Dodik, Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, the President of the National Assembly of the RS, Nenad Stevandic, the Prime Minister of the RS, Radovan Viskovic and many other officials.

Also present are the ambassadors of Israel to Bosnia and Herzegovina based in Tirana, Galit Peleg, Russia's Igor Kalabuhov, Serbia's Aleksandar Djordjevic, representatives of the Chinese and Hungarian Embassies, the Third Infantry Regiment of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of cities and municipalities in the RS, and non-governmental organizations as well as descendants of the victims.

Donja Gradina is the largest execution site in the “Jasenovac” concentration camp system, which was formed in August 1941, immediately after the declaration of the Independent State of Croatia.
