The Chairman of the US Congress Committee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Defense, Health and Education, Robert Aderholt, sent a letter to the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity, Lidija Bradara, in which he praised the activities undertaken by the FBiH President and the Speaker of the Parliament as well as members of the Committee for Economic and Financial Policy of the FBiH House of Representatives on the reform of the Law on the Securities Commission in the FBiH to establish the rule of law and eliminate corruption.
The letter was also sent to FBiH Vice Presidents Refik Lendo and Igor Stojanovic, the FBiH Prime Minister Nermin Niksic, the Speaker of the FBiH Parliament Mirjana Marinkovic-Lepic, and the US Ambassador to BiH Michael Murphy.
Congressman Aderholt supported amending the Law on the FBiH Securities Commission, according to which the members of the Commission currently enjoy immunity from prosecution for their decisions because they are considered to have made them in “good faith”, which is inadmissible.
Likewise, the American congressman considered it necessary to introduce a second legal degree for business entities that may be harmed by the Commission's decisions that are enforceable and take effect immediately.
Several members of the American Congress met with Matej Zivkovic, Deputy President of the Commission, in February this year as part of a prayer breakfast, when they expressed great concern about the troubling story related to attempts on his life and, after reviewing the facts, expressed doubt and concern for the work of the current convocation of the FBiH Securities Commission, which was also stated in Congressman Aderholt's letter.
The American official asked for a report on the progress in the processes initiated by FBiH officials and expressed his unreserved support for the fight against corruption and organized crime in BiH.
