His attorney, Senka Nozica, told N1 that Stojic is expected to travel from Graz, Austria, to Zagreb following his release.

Stojic served his sentence in Austria in accordance with a decision of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) in The Hague, which succeeded the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY).

He was convicted alongside five other senior officials of the wartime leadership of Herzeg-Bosna: Slobodan Praljak, Jadranko Prlic, Milivoj Petkovic, Valentin Coric and Berislav Pusic who together received a total of 111 years in prison for war crimes committed during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In January 2025, Stojic submitted his third request to the IRMCT for early release, which has now been approved.
