The Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina ruled on Wednesday that the human rights of Davor Dragicevic - the father of murdered teenager David Dragicevic whose death remains unsolved to date - guaranteed by the Constitution of BiH and the European Convention were violated.
The court determined that it took 100 days for the District Prosecutor's Office in Banja Luka, Bosnia's second-largest city where the murder happened, to define this crime and to order an investigation, with the investigation still ongoing three years on.
The motion was filed over two years ago by Ifet Feraget, the Dragicevic family's attorney, due to what was said to be an inadequate investigation of the murder of David Dragicevic.
Dragicevic had gone missing on the night from March 17 to March 18, 2018, and his lifeless body was found on March 24 in the Crkvena river.
Initially, the police said he had taken drugs and drowned in the river but eventually this case was qualified as murder.
Dissatisfied with the investigation, the citizens formed a group ‘Justice for David’ led by his father Davor Dragicevic, who swore he would pursue justice no matter what.
Citizens have been gathering in Banja Luka for nearly a year under the slogan ‘Justice for David’ to protest against the Republika Srpska (RS) entity authorities, a part of Bosnia where Banja Luka is located, demanding the truth behind the death of Dragicevic to be revealed. Davor Dragicevic and his supporters believe RS police is covering up the murder and protecting some politically connected suspects.
They were protesting until December 30, when police banned them from doing so any longer with an explanation they were disturbing the peace and order.
