The Supreme Court of Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity acquitted Ljubo and Bekrija Seferovic in the "Dzenan Memic" case. This is the third time that the courts acquitted them beyond a reasonable doubt, saying they could not determine that a traffic accident occurred in which Memic was allegedly killed due to lack of evidence that the traffic accident even happened.
The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo handed down the first acquittal on July 16, 2018, and the second on January 13, 2020. In both cases, the FBiH Supreme Court upheld the Canton Sarajevo Prosecutor's Office appeals and returned the case to the beginning.
What marked this case and the trial that lasted for almost two years was that the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office and the injured party (the Memic family) were on opposite sides.
Dzenan's father claims from the beginning that his son was murdered and that the car accident was just a farce aimed at protecting someone. Since February 8, 2016, the Memic family has been searching for the truth about Dzenan's death.
Dzenan Memic was killed on February 8, 2016, while walking with his then-girlfriend Alisa Mutap along the Great Alley in Ilidza, near Sarajevo. Seven days later, he died at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo from injuries he sustained that night.
The case was originally conducted as a traffic accident, only to be reclassified by the Prosecution during the time of Chief Prosecutor Dalida Burzic as a murder, and then returned to a traffic accident.
