Court in Bosnia denies extradition of Chechen woman wanted by Russia

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued a final decision denying the extradition of Selima Ismailovna Hadisova, a Chechen woman wanted by Russia on charges of terrorism. The Appeals Panel of the Court ruled on 2 December that legal requirements for her extradition were not met.

Judge Hasija Masovic stated that Hadisova’s detention, which has lasted over two months, should be lifted accordingly. A final decision on her release is expected by 6 December.

The extradition case now moves to the Ministry of Justice of BiH for a formal resolution. Meanwhile, Hadisova’s lawyer, Emir Gazic, argued there was no basis for her continued detention and proposed alternative measures, including weekly police reporting.

Hadisova, 33, was arrested upon arriving in Sarajevo from Istanbul on 29 September with her three children. She has denied the charges, including allegations of involvement with ISIS, claiming she fled Chechnya to escape abuse and lived in Turkey for the past decade. Her children have been placed in a care facility near Sarajevo during her detention.

Simultaneously, Hadisova is pursuing an asylum claim in Bosnia, citing fears for her safety if returned to Russia. Judge Masovic emphasized that the asylum process, particularly involving a woman with young children, should be expedited to address her restricted movement and ensure legal protection.
