Covic calls for revision of Dayton Agreement and constitutional reform in Bosnia

The HDZ leader emphasized that the party’s goal is to secure a "total victory" in the upcoming general elections. To achieve this, HDZ officials plan to engage with the European People’s Party in Brussels and administration officials in Washington by March 2026. These meetings will focus on maintaining peace, ensuring the constitutional equality of the three constituent peoples, and securing legitimate representation.

"We are reaching out to all our friends to actively engage with political entities from all three ethnicities to resolve issues like the Election Law in a more normal political atmosphere," Covic remarked.

Aligning with international shifts

Covic expressed agreement with recent statements made by Michael Flynn, former U.S. National Security Advisor, regarding the need to review the Dayton Agreement and the broader NATO Charter. Flynn argued that the 21st century requires new economic and military alliances to avoid "great consequences." Covic echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the United States must seriously consider new partnerships.

Path to EU integration

Referencing a European Council resolution, Covic noted that for BiH to successfully join the European Union, it must ensure the protection of rights and the legitimate election of members of the Presidency and Houses of Peoples. He concluded that while the HDZ seeks to prevent the outvoting of Croats, and that such significant constitutional changes are nearly impossible without the support of the world's major administrations, including the incumbent Trump administration.
