Bosnia and Herzegovina must comply with the visa policy of the European Union and not let everyone enter its territory, Croatia’s Interior Minister, Davor Bozinovic, said commenting on the group of Chechens who are trying to reach his country via BiH.
A group of some 50 Chechens, including women and children, arrived at the Maljevac border crossing in BiH, and are trying to reach Croatia and request political asylum there in an attempt to avoid recruitment for the war in Ukraine.
Several dozen Chechens are staying in Bosnia and Herzegovina close to the border with Croatia and are planning to seek asylum there. According to Svevlad Hoffman, an advisor to the BiH Border Police Director, they arrived in BiH by abusing the country's visa-free regime with Russia.
Bozinovic said that Croatian police have information that Chechens enter BiH as tourists, with paid accommodation, but that after entering they decide to go to the Croatian border.
He noted that BiH is now an EU membership candidate country and must harmonize its foreign and security policies with the EU.
