Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said ahead of the European Council summit in Brussels on Thursday that Croatia will make sure that Bosnia and Herzegovina gets a green light for the opening of the accession talks with the European Union.
“We got a positive recommendation (by the European Commission) for the opening of the accession talks with BiH. We work on having all member states providing their support at the European Council (session). We believe that this is a historic decision of the EU, that our most important neighbouring country, where the Croats are a constituent and equal people, catch up in the process of accession. It is a priority,” Plenkovic stressed.
Commenting on the statements of some countries who announced a possible blockade to that decision, he replied: No way.
“We are here and there is no way that the decision on BiH is not passed either today or tomorrow. We will make sure that this happens. As far as the linking of some decisions on Ukraine and Moldova with this on Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is unacceptable for us. We are in favour of the support to our friendly countries and want this decision to be passed, and it will happen,” he underlined.
Brussels media reported ahead of the summit that while some countries, including Austria, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia, want the progress of Ukraine and Moldova towards the EU to go hand in hand with the progress of the Western Balkan countries on that path, some Baltic countries led by Lithuania said it could not agree on the green light on Bosnia unless there is stronger positive language on Ukraine.
