Cvijanovic calls for dialogue, international support to resolve Bosnia crisis
Chairwoman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljka Cvijanovic, has issued a statement asserting that Bosnia can only overcome its current political and constitutional crisis through open and sincere internal dialogue, along with support from neighboring countries.
"I call on Serbia and Croatia, as signatories of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to join the authorities in Bosnia in initiating talks on rehabilitating the Dayton Agreement and protecting the constitutionally guaranteed rights of its constituent peoples, which have been severely undermined under the pretense of creating a functional state that serves only one nation," Cvijanovic stated.
She emphasized that preserving peace and stability in Bosnia is paramount, which can only be ensured through equal rights for all its peoples and respect for the role of its entities.
"I believe that the restoration of Bosnia's true sovereignty can only be achieved through the democratic work of its institutions, without abuses of the legal system and judiciary, and without the undemocratic methods employed by unelected foreign officials who represent no Bosnian voter. Furthermore, I believe this process should be led under the strong leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, as I am convinced that only his administration can address the negative legacy of various bureaucrats and globalist elites, whose interventions have turned Bosnia into a failed project," she added.
Cvijanovic also stated that past crises in Bosnia were driven by the "illegal imposition of decisions by High Representatives, which must be annulled," according to a statement from the Presidency.
She stressed that the role of the High Representatives must be returned to the framework of Annex 10 of the Dayton Agreement and that citizens of both entities, regardless of their national or religious background, should be assisted in restoring faith in their institutions.
"I also call on EUFOR and NATO to increase their presence to help local authorities maintain peace and ensure stability," Cvijanovic concluded.
Kovacevic rejects claims of attacking constitutional order, denounces arrest threats
Meanwhile, Radovan Kovacevic, spokesperson for the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) party and delegate in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reacted following the order by the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina to bring in for questioning the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik, RS Prime Minister Radovan Viskovic, and Speaker of the RS National Assembly Nenad Stevandic.
Kovacevic asserted that Republika Srpska’s actions do not constitute an attack on Bosnia’s constitutional order. However, his statement is contradicted by the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which suspended the disputed laws passed by the RS National Assembly through a temporary measure.
"No one will arrest or can arrest the state leadership of Republika Srpska. Republika Srpska is not attacking the constitutional order; on the contrary, it is making decisions to which it is entitled under the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Constitution of Republika Srpska," Kovačević stated.
