If this is the way of settling accounts with officially elected representatives of Republika Srpska, I must say that on behalf of the citizens, I am really ready and able to bear such consequences," said Republika Srpska (RS) entity President Zeljka Cvijanovic Monday reacting to the sanctions against her and BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik that were introduced today by the Government of the United Kingdom.
She was adamant that these sanctions are a political message sent to the citizens of the Republika Srpska and the Republika Srpska entity.
“What I’m not ready for is that someone would try to ask the President of the RS to enter into a legislative conflict with the National Assembly,” Cvijanovic said, noting that previously, after the adoption of the Law on Property of the RS on February 10, she suffered terrible pressure not to sign it in action.
She concluded by saying that this is a “transparent way to find an explanation for what is called their effort to protect the role of the High Representative and to force us not to adhere to the Constitution, not to remember the Constitution and not to protect the Constitutional position of the RS,” Cvijanovic said.
The UK Government has announced the first UK sanctions under the Bosnia and Herzegovina sanctions regime against tripartite BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, as well as the President of the country’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Zeljka Cvijanovic, for “undermining of the legitimacy and functionality of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
