Death toll rises to 12 after fire at Tuzla retirement home

According to the University Clinical Center (UCC) Tuzla, the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation confirmed the death at 12:09 p.m. The deceased had been among those seriously injured in the blaze that broke out earlier this week.

The investigation into the tragedy is still ongoing. Eleven people had previously died as a result of the fire, while 14 patients remain hospitalized at UCC Tuzla.

A new fatality was also reported at 12:39 pm, raising the number of deaths at the University Clinical Center to three.

Four patients are currently being treated at the Clinic for Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, two of whom are on mechanical ventilation.

Six residents of the Tuzla Retirement Home are hospitalized at the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases. Their vital signs are stable, hospital officials said. One police officer who reported for medical evaluation earlier today remains under observation at the same clinic but is not included in the total number of hospitalized patients.

Three patients are being treated at the Clinic for Internal Medicine, all in stable condition. One patient is hospitalized at the Clinic for Urology and is also reported to be in stable condition, according to a statement from UCC Tuzla.

In response to the tragedy, a Day of Mourning was declared at the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Brcko District, but not the state level.
