“We will propose this to our coalition partners, and our candidate will be the Minister for Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of Republika Srpska, Sinisa Karan. We still need to reach an agreement on that,” Dodik told RTRS from Sochi, Russia.
Initially, Dodik said he would neither recognize nor accept the decision of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Central Election Commission (CEC) or the Court of BiH that there would be no early elections for the RS presidency. At the time, he announced plans for a referendum to allow citizens of Republika Srpska to decide whether he should remain president of the entity. However, the referendum never took place.
Dodik also pushed the RS National Assembly to adopt conclusions rejecting the CEC’s decision, only to later force lawmakers to amend those same conclusions.

For his shifting positions, Dodik blamed the opposition first, and then “politicians from Sarajevo,” predominantly Bosniaks.
