Dayton agreement has been violated in a series of instances, Serb member of Bosnia's three-member Presidency Milorad Dodik said on Thursday, stressing that he has written about this matter to the UN Secretary General, the UN General Assembly President and has also informed Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about the breach of these rules.
Speaking at a press conference in the northern city Banja Luka, the administrative centre of Bosnia's Serb-majority entity, Republika Srpska, Dodik said that he also addressed “a certain number of ambassadors important for the Dayton Agreement” – a peace deal which ended the Bosnian 1992-95 war and introduced the country's constitutional system.
“The only body in charge of the foreign policy implementation is the Presidency, it is not possible to communicate any position without the Presidency's decision and we could see it lately that the gentlemen are constantly doing so and thus bringing into a question the constitutional order of this country and preservation of the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Dodik said in reference to Bosnia's position regarding Russia's suspending from the UN Human Rights Council, which is set for a vote at the UN General Assembly on Friday.
Earlier on Thursday, Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic said in a meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union member states, the UK and Japan, that Bosnia would support the initiative for Russia's suspension from the UN body.
He also touched upon the mention of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the German Bundestag on Wednesday, when some participants called for sanctions on Republika Srpska.
“It is interesting that many in the Bundestag are very passionate about attacks on Republika Srpska and its politicians. The same Germany that sent the Germans in 1941 to assist the Ustashas in killing a million people in this area is now announcing that their armed forces will come here. Their armed forces are not needed here, they are not welcome and they cannot come here without a decision of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Dodik stressed
He called it a “mistake” agreeing on the extension of the EU military presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I made a mistake agreeing to extend the mandate of the ALTHEA mission here. Every day they parade here unnecessarily, trying bring in some unrest or discipline. Only a few months and a week ago, the ALTHEA commander said that there was no threat to peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now we see their actions and I cannot conclude otherwise that they are doing it together with Muslims,” said Dodik, referring to one of the three major ethnic groups in the country, officially called the Bosniaks.
“They have done nothing to explain to our people the goodwill of their mission, but to demonstrate their power and strength,” he added.
