BiH Presidency member, Milorad Dodik, told Euronews Serbia that recognising the results of the referendums in Ukraine which were organised by Moscow would suit his interests as it would also represent “a way of deciding on the status” of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity.
Dodik said that neighbouring Serbia has its own position when it comes to referendums in Ukraine organized by Moscow because it protects its territorial integrity and it cannot accept the referendum because of the issue of Kosovo.
“But as for me, it would suit me to legalize the referendum as a way of deciding the status of Republika Srpska,” he said.
Dodik met with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, last week, and said they discussed numerous planned projects, including the gas pipeline that should reach Banja Luka through Serbia, and the construction of two gas power plants in the area of Prijedor and Banja Luka.
“As far as political relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina are concerned, the Russian position is well known,” he said.
“It is exclusively related to supporting the Dayton Agreement, support for this international agreement, as opposed to what the West aspires to do,” he said.
“The West decided to dismantle the Dayton Agreement to the point of putting it aside. On the other hand, Russia has remained committed to it and that is why it is an ally that I respect, as well as President Putin,” Dodik stressed.
According to Dodik, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine “is related to the relations between the West and Russia” and that the central issue is “the energy that Russia has at its disposal.”
He said that Russia “did not impose political conditions” on Bosnia and Herzegovina as the West did.
“When Britain, that is, the West, wanted to qualify the Serb people as genocidal in the last century, Russia vetoed it,” he said.
Dodik said that “Europe is not what it used to be” and is “not the most desirable place for all of us.”
“It weakened a lot, there are many problems. Europe as a continent will survive, but the EU as an organization, we will see. Of course, the Americans have the main say here and it exists as such. But what to do about it? If you accept their suggestions and subservience to them, then you have put a stop to Republika Srpska and national identity, so you have no choice but to oppose it,” he said.
According to him, “people are fed up with international interventionism that has always been against the RS and the Serb people” and he said this position is part of his election campaign.
“No matter what anyone thinks, we will win that election with a significant majority. I have won twelve elections so far in the RS and I have always grown, and I expect the same now,” he said.
