The ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) party held its Election Conference in Banja Luka on Sunday, where Vlado Djajic was re-elected as president of the party’s City Committee. The event also saw the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, once again threatening a "path to independence" for the entity.
Dodik praised the SNSD organization in Banja Luka as one of the strongest in Republika Srpska, pointing to Djajic’s re-election as proof of its strength.
“More than 400 local committee delegates were present, they elected a new City Committee, a president, and the leadership. SNSD has made significant progress—8,000 more votes were cast for our party in the last elections compared to the previous ones. That shows that the organization under Djajic’s leadership was well-structured to achieve such a result,” Dodik said.
Dodik on upcoming Court verdict and possible entity reactions
Dodik also addressed his upcoming verdict at the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he and Milos Lukic, the former acting director of the Official Gazette of RS, face charges for disregarding decisions of the High Representative.
Dodik reiterated that he will not attend the verdict announcement on February 26, 2025, calling on his supporters to also stay away from the court.
He then laid out Republika Srpska’s plans if he is convicted, stating that the entity would try to negotiate with the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to restore constitutional order. If that fails, Dodik warned, Republika Srpska would take independent actions.
“Our primary goal is to defend the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will call on the Federation to return to the Dayton Constitution. If they refuse, we will have to make decisions. RS will declare that the BiH Constitution has been destroyed and that those who accept unconstitutional laws have effectively dismantled it. The Constitution states that only the Parliamentary Assembly can pass laws. How can they amend laws outside of that procedure? If you allow that to collapse, you allow everything to collapse,” Dodik claimed.
He further alleged that there was a plot against him, accusing political actors of trying to eliminate him from politics by either convicting him or imprisoning him.
“They want to crush the strongest political authority—me—to the point where I can no longer engage in politics. And if I persist, they want to put me in prison for political reasons. That time is long gone. They are going after me because of my politics, hoping to settle the property issue quickly—if they convict me, no one else will dare to resist because the case will be closed,” Dodik argued.
If no agreement is reached, Republika Srpska will move toward a unilateral path, Dodik warned.
“That is Plan B. We will try to negotiate until the very end, to explain that Bosnia must include us, not just them. If they refuse, we will make our own decisions,” he stated, urging his supporters to gather at the National Assembly of RS (NSRS) on Wednesday instead of the BiH Court, suggesting a major rally.
Opposition calls for no support, SNSD mobilizes members
Opposition politicians have urged citizens not to attend the SNSD-led rally, arguing that Dodik is hiding behind Republika Srpska and must face justice as an individual.
Meanwhile, SNSD members have been instructed to spread the word about the rally via Viber, WhatsApp, and social media, ensuring maximum turnout.
At Sunday’s SNSD conference, Zeljka Cvijanovic was elected as Vice President of the City Committee, along with Goran Maricic, while Milenko Letic was appointed as Secretary.
Dodik’s rhetoric echoes his previous statements following the last hearing at the BiH Court, where both the defence and prosecution presented their final arguments. SNSD supporters have repeatedly warned that "radical actions" will follow if Dodik and Lukic are convicted.
The first-instance verdict is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, at 1:00 PM in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
