BiH Presidency member and candidate for President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, announced that a plan to establish a separate election commission in the entity will be presented at a counter-protest on Tuesday, adding that all those who refuse to participate in the gathering in Banjaluka “are against Republika Srpska”.
Dodik, who is the leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), previously announced the counter-protest after opposition parties organised mass protests in the RS over what they claim was election fraud.
RS citizens and opposition parties in the entity organised two protests recently, claiming that the opposition candidate, Jelena Trivic, won the election for the post of RS President.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) ordered a recount of the votes due to irregularities.
“In the past few days, many people have requested a meeting so that the people can express their will. We are expecting many people to join, all those who want the Serb people here to decide for themselves. Those who can come, but won't – are against Republika Srpska,” Dodik said in Visegrad, as reported by RTRS, the public broadcaster in the RS entity.
Dodik said that certain positions will be expressed at that meeting, more specifically – guidelines in terms of policy in the coming years. He announced efforts to “return the competence for elections to the entity level”.
“This means that the election law of the RS will give the right to the Republika Srpska through its own election commission to conduct local elections, as well as elections for the National Assembly and the president of the RS,” he said, adding that the state-level Central Election Commission “does not have that right under the Constitution.”
Dodik accused opposition parties in the entity, the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) and the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) of agreeing to transfer the “sovereign right of the people to decide in the elections” to “irresponsible people in Sarajevo who have a bad attitude towards everything in Republika Srpska.”
