Milorad Dodik, the Serb member of Bosnia's three-member Presidency, said on Tuesday during the address before the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) that the Serb-majority region, Republika Srpska, has no plan to secede and that it wants a "constitutional Bosnia and Herzegovina."
Dodik and other two Presidency members, Bosniak Sefik Dzaferovic and Croat Zeljko Komsic, as well as the Speaker of Bosnia's House of Peoples Dragan Covic, are attending a meeting with the members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, discussing the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I am not here to argue with my colleagues, although I disagree with many things said here,” said Dodik, who nevertheless addressed criticism towards other two Presidency members.
He accused them of always claiming they are the ones with right stances and saying what is true or not.
He stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina has been in a “permanent crisis,” and that all those who know the situation also know this was always the case and that “it has never had a successful period without a stronger international intervention, which caused many troubles, whether we like it or not.”
“Bosnia and Herzegovina can certainly not be a state organised based on will of only one people, in this case the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina who wish to complete their war but using different tools,” said Dodik, referring to one of three constituent peoples officially called the Bosniaks.
He accused his Croat colleague of being an “usurper of the rights of the Croat people to representation,” who was elected with “false Muslim votes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
“We currently have two Muslim members of the Presidency and one Serb,” Dodik said, insisting on the term ‘Muslim’.
He also mentioned Dzaferovic's participation in the war of the 1990s, saying that this has never been inspected. He said that Republika Srpska entity was done with the Hague-based UN court and that there is nobody to be prosecuted anymore in reference to the war.
“What is the problem? The Serbs were convicted to 1,050 years in prison and Muslims to 43. Do you think this is the balance of relations from the war? That's why Republika Srpska expects the international factor in BiH, which is involved with internal matters, to respect the letter of the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Dodik stressed, adding that Republika Srpska respects external sovereignty of BiH and is not questioning it.
According to him, there is a “hysteria” being created in Sarajevo.
“As far as I know I did not come to witness the Russia-Ukraine conflict but the situation in BiH,” Dodik said addressing the MEPs, adding that his colleagues forced this topic to “gain sympathy.”
“We want constitutional Bosnia and Herzegovina. Help us and make sure that BiH functions the way that the Constitution foresees it. Secure the equality of peoples and consensus as a way of decision-making and BiH will not have any problems. Stop helping the way that creates problems to us,” he underlined.
