The Bosnian Serb member of the tripartite BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, visited on Monday the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem and laid a wreath on a stone slab above the ashes of victims from six death camps.
“It is a great honour to be on Mount Herzl, one of the most important places for the State of Israel and the Jewish people,” Dodik wrote on Twitter.
“When a person finds himself on the mountain of remembrance and near the Memorial Center for Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes, he feels a special energy, regardless of his heritage,” he wrote.
“A million questions of “why” – and each without an answer. Because, how would one explain sadness that is as big as this mountain. At this place, one learns about the terrible and dark depths which the human evil spirit can fall into. At this place, the meaning of life and the meaninglessness of destruction, the cry of pain and the cry of victory intersect. At this place, one learns about the violent extinction of millions of lives, but also about the victory of life over death,” he added.
Dodik stressed that what happened to Jews in WWII must never be forgotten.
“What happened to the Jewish people is terrible, unacceptable, unjust and incomprehensible. Many nations have paid the price of establishing their own state and achieving national freedom, but none like the Jewish one,” Dodik wrote.
