Dodik’s threats to pull Republika Srpska out of the agreement on the state level taxation authority, army and judiciary are one of the most frivolous initiatives which will only make the Serb-dominated entity within Bosnia into a national and international problem, the leader of the opposition Serb Democratic Party (SDS) Mirko Sarovic told N1 Sunday.

“With things like this, we can really provoke some things, we can become a kind of a case. My opinion is that such serious issues mentioned in the initiative, the Armed Forces, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJCP), the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) to be simply “mentioned like that,” as Mr Dodik did in this case, can only be done by a frivolous person. It’s not a question of just one man and his party. And even if just one man or one party initiates something like that, one must have a serious internal consensus, the deputies and parliaments must discuss this, and not follow the initiative of one man,” Sarovic said.

Bosnia’s Serb Presidency member Milorad Dodik and the leader of the ruling Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) announced Friday night the RS has already formed expert teams that would deliver legal remedies through which the RS would pull out of agreements it signed years ago forming the state-level judiciary, tax administration and army. According to him, the competencies given to the state level must be returned to the RS as the Constitution does not provide for such institutions.

The move came after several of his and RS initiatives were rejected by the State or Constitutional Court and other state-level institutions as unconstitutional or illegal, and after the international community’s High Representative overseeing the civilian implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement that ended the 1992.1995 war in the country, imposed a genocide denial ban.

The ban prompted all Serb ministers and state officials at the state level to boycott the work of state institutions until the ban was repealed.

According to Sarovic, to initiate such a thing, one must have the support of their friends, noting that currently neither Dodik nor the RS have that support at the moment.

“It’s a sort of a Gaddafiesque attempt for which only the RS will suffer, the initiative will fail and the society will suffer the consequences. The people, the RS and I really think it’s high time to stop taking such initiative seriously and I doubt anything serious will come of them,” Sarovic said.
