Bosnia’s Presidency Chairman, Sefik DZaferovic, and the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Stuart Peach, discussed the political and security situation in BiH in light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, as well as efforts to distort the facts about the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide in the country’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity.
The meeting took place ahead of the commemoration event to mark the 27th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, which will be held on Wednesday evening at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Dzaferovic thanked UK authorities for their dedicated approach to preserving the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica, saying this country proves it has the highest level of civilizational awareness.
Dzaferovic said that the authorities of Serbia and Republika Srpska systematically deny the genocide and thereby prevent the restoration of trust and reconciliation, making it impossible for people in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region to build a brighter perspective.
The two also discussed the energy, economic and food supply crisis, as well as potential political consequences.
