There will be no more border changes in the Western Balkans and all those who want them must be aware of that fact, the Bosniak member of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic, told N1.
Dzaferovic commented on recent developments in Montenegro, where protesters tried to stop the enthronement of the new head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country.

He said that what is important for BiH s that Montenegro is a stable, prosperous NATO member and continues its path towards EU membership. BiH and Montenegro have good relations and no outstanding issues with each other, he said.
“Tensions don’t benefit anyone. It is necessary to initiate a dialogue within Montenegro,” he said.
However, Dzaferovic argued that there is some level of interference of Serbia in Montenegro.
“I think there is interference. The President of Serbia himself said that the Serbian intelligence service closely monitored what was happening in Montenegro and informed the leadership in Serbia about it,” he said.
The Bosniak Presidency member said that “when it comes to the entire region of the Western Balkans, the geopolitical configuration has been resolved.”
“There will certainly be no redrawing of borders or secession. Everyone must be aware of that,” he said, adding that “those who dream of a Greater Serbia, a Greater Albania or a greater Croatia” must know that those are “empty dreams.”
Dzaferovic also commented on a statement by Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, who recently said that Serbia has no aspirations when it comes to the territory of other countries.
He said that Serbia carried out aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina which ended in genocide.
“I want to believe that Serbia has no such intention, but we want to see that it is so,” he said, arguing that when his Serb colleague in the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, speaks about BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity seceding from the country, Vucic should react to it and clearly state that this is not Serbia’s policy.
He said that he told Vucic at a recent summit that “we need to resolve the open issue of borders, and not to ask for an exchange of territories before that.”
“They must stop protecting the war criminals convicted here. Look at how many of them are hiding in Serbia,” he stressed.
Dzaferovic recently asked the High Representative overseeing the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, Christian Schmidt, to dismiss Dodik, arguing that the Serb Presidency member has been blocking the work of the institution.
Dzaferovic explained that Dodik voted against a series of important decisions in order to completely block the institution at a recent Presidency session.
He argued that “international interventionism is part of the Dayton Agreement” and that he only asked for the High Representative “to fulfil his role.”
“I believe he will look for a way to end the blockades. We must fulfil our constitutional obligations, let them remove me as well if I block anything,” he said.
Dzaferovic’s request was met with fierce criticism in Serbia, where Parliament Speaker, Ivica Dacic, as well as Interior Minister, Aleksandar Vulin, said the Bosniak Presidency member is threatening peace in the region.
“These gentlemen, when they have no arguments, tend to insult, show arrogance,… It doesn't work anymore. Here in the region, we will all be equal. Let them remember that well. No one's arrogance will affect anyone,” Dzaferovic responded.
