The Chairman and Bosniak member of the Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic, welcomed the decision by the United Kingdom to introduce sanctions against his Bosnian Serb colleague in the institution, Milorad Dodik, arguing that the move is justified.
The UK Government has announced the first UK sanctions under the Bosnia and Herzegovina sanctions regime against tripartite BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, as well as the President of the country’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Zeljka Cvijanovic, for “undermining of the legitimacy and functionality of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

UK sanctions mean that Dodik and Cvijanovic will be unable to travel to the UK or use or access any assets they may have in the UK.
“The decision of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a justified. The United Kingdom is one of the witnesses of the Dayton Agreement and a member of the Peace Implementation Council, and it is necessary to react when the Dayton Agreement is undermined, and that it what the government of the RS entity is doing,” Dzaferovic said.
According to Dzaferovic, a number of unconstitutional laws, decisions and conclusions of the RS entity authorities have undermined the Dayton Peace Agreement and 27 years of its implementation.
“This has seriously endangered stability and shaken the peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is especially worrying considering the Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the fact that the RS authorities led by Dodik support this aggression,” he said.
Dzaferovic also urged member states of the European Union to impose such sanctions on RS officials, arguing that Dodik is undermining European security and stability, which should be a priority over any internal disputes within the EU.
“If it is not possible to reach a consensus on this issue, the EU must not be a hostage of one of the members, and other countries should impose sanctions on Dodik and those who follow him,” Dzaferovic said.
