Orthodox faithful around the world, including in the region, celebrate the biggest religious holiday Easter, which symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
On this occasion, Easter liturgies were held in churches in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Zagreb and Podgorica, and the rest of the region, which are traditionally attended by a large number of believers.
In Sarajevo, the liturgy was served in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God.
Easter is the most important Christian holiday, the “holiday of holidays”, and it represents the essence of that faith because the resurrection signifies the victory of life.
Believers greet each other with: “Christ is risen! – Indeed, He is risen,” until the Day of the Savior, which this year is celebrated on May 26.
The holiday observes a series of customs: eggs are dyed, the first coloured one is set aside until the next Easter and it is called the “guardian” and then carefully disposed of in accordance with local customs.
It symbolizes the birth of life, and the red colour is the innocent blood of Christ.
On this day, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is celebrated and it represents the essence of the Christian faith. With his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ defeated death and gave eternal life to all people on Earth.
By the act of suffering on the cross, when the sinless Christ takes upon himself the sins of the entire human race, and then by the act of resurrection when he defeats death, he gives hope to all the faithful.
