The EU’s General Affairs Council held a session Tuesday where numerous current topics were discussed, and the decision to confirm candidate status for BiH was mentioned in a positive light.
Maros Sefcovic, the Vice President of the European Commission, said that the past six months were extremely complicated due to the events that took place in Europe.
“These six months have been extremely complicated considering Russia's continuous aggression against Ukraine and the problems that have arisen in business. The approach must be welcomed. This proved to be significant, especially in today's decision to recommend candidate status for BiH, which the Council will confirm on Thursday. This is a very strong signal for the Western Balkans. Especially in the new geopolitical context”.
He added that no other policy can match the European perspective of the Western Balkans.
“As you may have already heard as I said earlier, it is of strategic importance for the EU and I believe that no other policy and perspective can match the European perspective of the Western Balkans. I also welcome the joint declaration of the three institutions that set key priorities for 2023. This paves the way for the signing of the declaration on the sidelines of the European Council session.
