The President of the European Court of Human Rights, Robert Spano, will visit Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday and meet with members of BiH’s Constitutional Court.

Spano will arrive in the country alongside ECHR judge, Faris Vehabovic, as well as jurisconsult, Anna Austin.

It should be reminded that BiH has not implemented five judgments of the European Court related to the election legislation.

There are five ECHR rulings related to election legislation in BiH that the country has not implemented yet.

The verdicts in the cases Sejdic-Finci, Zornic, Pilav, Slaku and Pudaric state that BiH is obliged to abolish discriminatory provisions in the BiH Constitution and Election Law.

These problematic laws prevent members of national minorities, as well as those who declare themselves members of certain constituent peoples depending on which part of BiH they live in, from running in the elections for members of the Presidency and the House of Peoples.

The first such verdict in the Sejdic – Finci case was handed down in December 2009.
