The veteran striker has signed a deal running until June 2027.

According to German newspaper BILD, Dzeko is expected to earn a base salary of €900,000 per year, with performance-related bonuses potentially increasing his total earnings to around €1.3 million.

Picking up where he left off

Dzeko rejoined Schalke on January 22 this year and quickly made an impact.

In just 11 appearances, he scored six goals and provided three assists, playing a key role in helping Schalke secure promotion back to the Bundesliga.

After his contract expired on July 1, the 40-year-old delayed making a decision on his future until after the FIFA World Cup with the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Having decided to continue his playing career, Dzeko accepted Schalke's offer and extended his stay for another season.

Back in the Bundesliga

The upcoming campaign will mark Dzeko's return to the Bundesliga for the first time in 15 years.

The Bosnian striker played for Wolfsburg between 2007 and 2011, helping the club win its historic Bundesliga title. During the 2008/09 season, he finished as the league's top scorer, establishing himself as one of Europe's leading forwards.

His performances in Germany earned him a move to Manchester City, before he went on to enjoy successful spells with Roma, Inter, Fenerbahçe and Schalke.

Another season at the highest level

Despite turning 40 in March, Dzeko has decided to extend his playing career and compete at the highest level for at least one more season.

His continued presence in the Bundesliga is also a boost for Bosnia and Herzegovina head coach Sergej Barbarez, as the national team captain will remain active in one of Europe's strongest leagues ahead of the country's upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
