Awaiting a “political agreement” does not pose a legal ground for delaying the announcement of elections this year, chief of the Central Election Commission Zeljko Bakalar said on Friday.
He referred to the statements of some participants of the ongoing political talks on electoral reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who mentioned a potential postponing of elections until agreement is reached.
“The said is neither a legal ground for postponement of the implementation of elections nor for the announcement of the elections for another date except the one stipulated by law,” said Bakalar.
He added that any different step the Central Election Commission would require law amendments.
After the recent meeting on electoral reform mediated by the representatives of the US and EU yielded no results, Bosnian political leaders resumed the negotiations this week without foreign representatives.
