Following the approval from the Regulatory Commission for Energy in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FERK) at the end of June, the price of electricity of Elektroprivreda BiH for households will increase by 10.04% starting tomorrow, August 1. This means a new billing calculation will be applied.
In addition to households, the decision includes a linear price increase for other consumption categories, which will see an average rise of up to 8%, specifically 7.29%. This category includes kindergartens, student dormitories, kitchens of humanitarian organizations, and religious buildings.
This announcement has particularly worried citizens, as they are aware that higher electricity costs could lead to more expensive goods. On the other hand, Elektroprivreda BiH states that the increase was necessary due to rising costs that have impacted the company, which reported a loss of 331 million KM last year.
Sanel Buljubasic, the General Director of Elektroprivreda BiH, stated that the company needs financial resources to maintain power plants, including thermal and hydroelectric plants, ensuring they are fully operational to meet customer demands. He emphasized that there are legal grounds for this decision.
“This is the first step by FERK towards EPBiH after a long period of aligning our prices with those of our customers. It has been noted today that even these new prices are not close to our production costs, but it is crucial for maintaining our energy stability. The previous FERK chairperson unnecessarily removed this item from the last session, which was acknowledged today,” said Buljubasic.
Speaking about potential future price increases, he indicated that it would depend on production costs. He also mentioned that for 85% of consumers, the price increase will amount to an average of 2.5 KM per bill.
