Dr. Sanjin Musa from the FBiH Public Health Institute stated that most cases have been recorded in Sarajevo Canton and Tuzla Canton. While the majority of fatalities were individuals over 65, some younger high-risk patients were also affected.

Each flu season, an estimated 100,000 to 300,000 people in the Federation contract the virus. Both Influenza A and B strains are circulating, with the flu season running from October 2024 to May 2025. The epidemic threshold was crossed in mid-January, and activity is expected to decline from March.

The flu spreads through coughing, sneezing, and close contact, with symptoms including high fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headaches, and cough. Dr. Musa warned that complications such as pneumonia and brain inflammation could arise, particularly for those with pre-existing conditions.

Vaccination remains the most effective prevention, especially for the elderly, chronic patients, and healthcare workers. Free flu shots have been available since October, with over 28,200 doses administered so far.
