Eleven migrants of Afro-Asian descent tried to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina via the Drina River, Border Police said Friday adding that they prevented the smuggling of migrants in Kozluk municipality, near Zvornik, with the help of the Special Team for the Prevention of Illegal Migration.
After they noticed a boat from the Republic of Serbia while monitoring the state border and using specialist equipment, Border Police units stopped the boat with 13 people of Afro-Asian origin, the BiH Border Police said.
The two people who steered the boat said they were from Afghanistan. They are suspected of committing the crime of “smuggling of persons.”
Both of them were apprehended and they will be handed over to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH
The remaining 11 migrants said they are from Eritrea, Afghanistan, Sudan, Pakistan, Togo and Syria and they will be interrogated as witnesses with the help of a translator. They will be submitted to the country’s Foreigners’ Affairs Service, the BiH Border Police said.
