Amer Bekan, Director of AAFS d.o.o. and a representative for American investors in Bosnia and Herzegovina, confirmed a strong intent to collaborate with the state-owned firm. Bekan emphasized that the investment group views state companies as essential partners rather than competitors, noting that they intend to work specifically with Energoinvest due to its proven track record.
In alignment with its historical role and technical capacities, Energoinvest will maintain its function as the primary importer of natural gas for the Federation of BiH, ensuring market stability and supply continuity. FBiH Minister of Energy, Mining, and Industry Vedran Lakic confirmed that intensive consultations have taken place between relevant partners, including AAFS and Energoinvest. Minister Lakic reiterated that the government's commitment remains firm: Energoinvest will retain its importer status given its strategic importance to the entity.
Mirza Ustamujic, Director of Energoinvest, highlighted that the project is the culmination of complex, strategically guided negotiations. He noted that maintaining Energoinvest as a central actor is a matter of system stability and the preservation of domestic expertise. He pointed out that this decision arrives as the company experiences a robust operational and financial recovery, posting its best results in recent years.
Looking forward, the company aims to expand its involvement beyond the scope of importation. The Director described the project as a monumental investment exceeding 1.5 billion Bosnian marks (approx. € 766,935,000), with the potential for indirect investments of an equal value. He stressed that these figures represent concrete opportunities for industrial growth, job creation, and a significant investment cycle for the region.
The realization of the Southern Interconnection is expected to yield long-term benefits, including enhanced energy security, increased market competitiveness, and new development opportunities for the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to a statement from Energoinvest’s public relations service, the company is prepared to translate these strategic goals into measurable results for the state.
