The Ministers of Energy and Mining of Republika Srpska (RS) and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) have reached an agreement to ensure the uninterrupted gas supply to the citizens of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo. This development was confirmed by Vedran Lakic, the Federal Minister of Energy, Mining, and Industry.
Lakic revealed that he had a telephone conversation with Petar Djokic, the RS Minister of Energy and Mining, during which they agreed on the importance of resolving the ongoing disputes between “Energoinvest” and “Sarajevo Gas” in East Sarajevo. They emphasized the need for a prompt meeting between the two companies to resolve their differences and mentioned the possibility of seeking an official stance from the Regulatory Commission for Energy of RS to clarify its decision.
Lakic criticized the previous FBiH government for yielding to what he described as “blackmail” by agreeing to pay higher gas prices without prior approval from the RS Regulatory Agency. He affirmed that the current government would not accept unilateral price increases without regulatory approval, stating, “We will not allow anyone to blackmail us into paying a gas price that has not been approved.”
Earlier this year, “Energoinvest” agreed to a contractual gas price increase, contingent upon approval by the RS Regulatory Commission by June 30, 2024. However, the commission decided that the new price could only be applied starting January 1, 2025. Consequently, “Energoinvest” requested a correction of invoices from “Sarajevo Gas” to reflect the previously regulated price, demanding a refund of over one million KM for the overcharged amount.
Lakic concluded by urging “Sarajevo Gas” in East Sarajevo to return to legal business practices.
