During a joint press conference with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Becirovic, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan compared the situation in Gaza with the 1995 genocide that took place in Srebrenica.
“In courts of law, we will hold Israel accountable for the killing of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, along with over 41,000 of our Gazan brothers and sisters”, he said, referring to the Turkish American activist who was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank.
“Today we are witnessing in Gaza and (other) occupied Palestinian territories a massacre similar to the one carried out in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s”, he said, according to the Anadolu Agency.
Erdogan reportedly said that the “perpetrators of Gaza,” like the people behind the Srebrenica genocide, will be held accountable in international courts.
He noted that the UN General Assembly has declared 11 July 1995, as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide, and that Turkey supported this decision as a co-sponsor.
Erdogan reportedly said that his country has always supported Bosnia and Herzegovina since the declaration of its independence and that it will continue to do so. He stressed Ankara’s continued support for BiH’s territorial integrity and peace in the Balkans.
Erdogan also spoke about economic ties, saying that the trade volume between the countries is expected to reach $1 billion by the end of the year.
