EU Ambassador and Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luigi Soreca, visited Srebrenica on Wednesday, where he laid a wreath at the Memorial in Potocari to honour the victims of the genocide. Reflecting on the tragedy that took place nearly 30 years ago, Soreca described the Srebrenica genocide as one of Europe’s darkest chapters.
During his visit, Soreca met with survivors, emphasizing the importance of truth and remembrance. He underscored the need to reject any attempts to deny historical facts or glorify war criminals.
“I want to thank Emir Suljagic, Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, and Hamdija Fejzic, Chair of the Governing and Organisational Boards, for their tireless efforts to ensure that the memory of the victims is preserved,” Soreca stated.
Discussions also focused on preparations for the upcoming commemoration in July and efforts to strengthen the capacities of the Srebrenica Memorial Center. Soreca stressed that building a better future for all in Bosnia and Herzegovina requires empathy for victims and survivors, as well as full acknowledgement of historical facts and judicial rulings.
