European Union urges Republika Srpska entity authorities to stop unilateral actions, an EU spokesperson told N1, stressing that recently adopted laws in the Bosnia's Serb-majority entity are an “attack on the integrity” of BiH Constitution and its Constitutional Court.

The statement comes days after international peace envoy Christian Schmidt annulled two laws in Republika Srpska – one ignoring the decisions of Bosnia's Constitutional Court and other banning the publication of Schmidt's decisions in the entity's Official Gazette.

“The laws adopted by the Republika Srpska National Assembly are an attack on the integrity of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the BiH Constitution,” EU spokesperson Peter Stano told N1.

As for Schmidt's reaction, he emphasised that EU regrets that it was necessary for the High Representative to act to put the laws out of force, adding that the Bonn Powers are a “measure of last resort against irreparable unlawful acts.”

“The EU strongly urges the Republika Srpska authorities to stop unilateral actions and instead to work constructively so that Bosnia and Herzegovina may be able to deliver on reforms for the benefit for all citizens and to advance on its EU path,” said the spokesman.
