EU, UN reps to Bosnian authorities: Prevent political interference in media

World Press Freedom Day is marked today on May 3, and on this occasion, Luigi Soreca, Head of the European Union Delegation and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ingrid Macdonald, United Nations Resident Coordinator in BiH, issued a joint statement. They warned that in recent years there have been "significant setbacks" in media freedom in BiH, with country's significant drop in the World Press Freedom Index for 2024. They also pointed to the negative effects of introducing defamation into the legislation of Bosnia's Republika Srpska entity, but also to some legislative initiatives in the FBiH entity that could have been misused to restrict media freedom.
