European Union's senior official Angelina Eichhorst called for a dialogue among Bosnian political leaders and finding a solution to current political crisis with focus on reforms, the EU's office in Sarajevo said after Eichhorst's talks with Bosnia's political representatives.
According to the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eichhorst held phone talks with Milorad Dodik, Bakir Izetbegovic and Dragan Covic, the leaders of three strongest political parties in the country.
She also talked to Bosnian Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic.
“She raised the EU’s strong concerns regarding the political situation in BiH and urged the leaders to work with more energy and focus, together on a solution, through dialogue, compromise and a full return to the BiH institutions. She stressed the need to put an end to divisive and provocative rhetoric and actions. This includes questioning the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” said the statement.
Eichorst, who is serving as Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia at the European External Action Service (EEAS), reiterated the EU's “unequivocal commitment and support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU perspective as a single, united and sovereign country, underlining that an early agreement on constitutional and electoral reform is of utmost importance.”
She is set to pay a visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina alongside US Special Envoy for electoral reform in BiH, Matthew Palmer later this month.
