Some individuals hold the political power that is stronger than the state itself, former police chief in Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity and current MP in the State Parliament Zlatko Miletic told N1, warning that those individuals have the influence on judicial institutions.

“Apparently those who sank into crime possess the political power they use in the courts, prosecutor's offices and the police bodies, disabling the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina to establish the rule of law. They are stronger than the state itself, we can see it every day,” said Miletic speaking in N1's Pressing.

He spoke of various challenges the country is facing, including the migrant crisis and pandemic, as well as some specific affairs that sparked particular attention in the public, both in the country and abroad.

One of those affairs is the case of centuries-old Orthodox icon that Chairman of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency Milorad Dodik presented as a gift to Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, which was eventually sent back from Russia, as Ukraine claimed it was its object of cultural heritage and that it was stolen.

Miletic said this whole case was a “disgrace not only for Dodik but for the Serb people and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

“If we were living in a normal country Mr Dodik would have resigned after such scandal,” stressed Miletic.

“Mr Dodik committed a series of crimes, including the crime of smuggling, receiving a gift, presenting a gift, abuse of power and, to put it mildly, he should answer for misconduct,” he added.

The former police chief stressed the gilded icon, according to Ukrainian officials, was in that country until 2014 when “people who were there seized it and brought it to Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

“He humiliated himself and the Serb people, Republika Srpska (the Serb-majority region) and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Prosecutor's Office had to confiscate that object and return it to Ukraine. Who knows where the icon is now,” added Miletic.
