An exhibition dedicated to children born of war and people who experienced conflict-related sexual violence while they were children took place in the Hram Gallery in Sarajevo on Friday.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Speaking Out’, is part of the ‘Seeking Care, Support, and Justice for Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence in BIH’ which is conducted by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in BiH with the support of the Government of the United Kingdom with the goal to “improve the quality of life of survivors, ensure that survivors are not discriminated against and that they have easier access to rights and services,” said the Forgotten Children of War Association.

“Today I am strong and brave”, “My brother and I take care of our mother”, “At the age of 18 I am going through the most difficult moments in the camp …”, “I am like Fenix, and you?” – these are just some of the inscriptions on the artwork displayed at the gallery.

The exhibition is the result of the cooperation between the War Childhood Museum, the Wings of Hope Foundations and the Psiholab Association.

“In this way, we are doing something that helps them move forward, and it also helps us send a message to all of humanity that something like this must never happen again. Our society can be more inclusive, providing services without stigmatization. It is important that new generations are educated about that past so that it does not happen again,” said IOM Chief of Mission in BiH, Laura Lungarotti.

“The state can provide support, compensation, dignity and that is the legal obligation of the state. It is the obligation of individuals, society and the state to include survivors in our society. This is a way to build the resilience of society. A society that can recover from pain, accept newcomers and work in an inclusive way that will make us all stronger and have a better future,” she said.
The exhibition will remain open until July 1.
