Experts warn not enough is being done to stop climate change

According to the professor, the climate change is not a surprising turn of events but the intensity of it and intensity of its effects are.

He deems that, in general, not enough is being done to stop climate change.

“Some countries have relatively high ambition to implement action but others are slow and on average we are not yet on a course that would allow us to say we have confidence that we can keep global warming at 1.5 degrees. This is certainly an issue,” said the professor.

Asked if governments, despite promises, are not doing enough to prevent bad developments from happening, Portner replied that there are climate change targets as well as targets regarding biodiversity but there are also implementation gaps.
